I AM AN AMERICAN

By Lee Brock

I am an American: how about you?
You can‘t tell it by my color;
You can’t tell it by my size;
You can’t tell it by my accent;
Nor the color of my eyes.

I am an American: how about you?
I can prove it many ways:
How I stand at strict attention
When my flag is passing by
And I wipe away a teardrop
From the corner of my eye.

I am an American: how about you?
When I repeat the salutation,
"Under God" is not left out:
When our troops are passing by me,
Watch me stand up; hear me shout.

I am an American: how about you?
I respect my neighbor’s fences,
And his rights I will protect.
If his rights are over-ridden
I’ll stand up, and I’ll object.

I am an American: how about you?
Stand with me against oppression,
Sing with me a patriot’s song:
"IN GOD WE TRUST" is our motto:
Lord. Help us keep her strong.
