On Reaching Eighty Three

By Lee Brock

Once I ran a mile
In five minutes and a little bit more,
But that's been quite a while;
I don't guess I can do that any more.

Once I could kick my toe
To the top of the bed-room door:
Now I just don't try;
I don't guess I can do that any more.

Once I climbed a hill,
And shot a four point deer:
That was in days of yore:
I don't guess I can do that any more.

Now that I'm eighty three
I don't try to climb a tree:
What I could do before
I don't guess I can do any more.

But I can praise the Lord
For all He's done for me.
He blesses me much more
Than I can ask Him for.
