OCTOBER DEPARTS
By Lee Brock
Regal October has made her departure,
Enrobed in scarlet and gold;
With autumn sunlight on her shoulder,
A beautiful sight to behold.
We loved her beautiful ways;
The moon-lit tales she told;
An eagle soared above her head,
Jays and wrens grew bold.
November slipped around the bend,
Appearing cloudy and cold:
A wintry wind and a snowy day
Was all that he foretold.
Frost on the meadow and snow on the hill,
And sheep all safe in the fold:
A fire on the hearth and food on the shelf:
Let us be both thankful and bold.
