Thanksgiving Day

By Lee Brock

We thank you Lord, this special day,
When football teams elect to play;
When friends and families go their way
To visit folks, but not to stay.

We choose to stop a while and pray
With thankful hearts; and want to say,
Thank you Lord, for every day
You’ve blessed our lives in any way.

We’re sorry if we went astray
From following when you led the way:
We know it never is okay
To walk our own and selfish way.

So please forgive our bent to stray;
Accept our thanks this special day
For blessings you have sent our way;
And listening when we stop to pray.

Thank you Lord for food today:
Enough, and some to give away:
Thanks for children now at play,
And friends that you have sent our way.

For our nation, Lord we pray,
And thank you for our men, away
On foreign battlefields today;
Please keep them safe within the fray.

For many other things we say,
Thank you Lord, this special day.
May we never, ever turn away
From praying on Thanksgiving Day.
